I have been to other P.F. Chang's China Bistro restaurants and typically enjoy the experience. The hostess area (staffed with 2-3 females at any given time) is chaotic...which is acceptable, but no smiles and a palpable lack of friendliness (really?) - plus clean tables in clear view with diners waiting, waiting, waiting. The fact that this popular restaurant often has a "wait time" does not mean that a lack of hospitality should become the norm. When we asked why two other parties who arrived after us were seated before us..."Oh, there was a miscommunication?" was the lame explanation. The hostess was offensive and clearly a complete twit. To make matters worse, the server was overly tense, brusque and inattentive, our order was screwed up and still we just laughed it off. No offer of dessert...and usually I order something. Finally, as we were leaving, the table next to us clearly experienced a similar issue..."No, that's not what we ordered!", we heard...geez! Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but I prefer eating out where is service is inviting and competent. It appears that the main issue with this particular location is simply bad help and poor management oversight of the staff - maybe a lack of training. With so many other great dining choices in the Jordan Creek area, I am going to pass on P.F. Chang's in the future.

I had the Dim Sum. Very flavorful and moist. Just in for a quick lunch.

I took my grandmother and and 15 others her to celebrate her 72nd birthday. They were very accommodating when I reserved a table for such a large group on two days notice. They also allowed us to bring in a couple of boxes of cupcakes from Scratch Cupcakery! The lettuce wraps are always awesome and the egg drop soup had a little kick to it which was nice since I love spicy food. I had the Combo Pad Thai which was very good.

We love this place. I had the almond/cashew chicken, and my gal had the orange peel shrimp. Both were excellent, and the portions were very generous. Our server did a fine job of taking good care of us, without hovering. We highly recommend this place

I can't understand the hype with this restaurant. The quality of food here reminds me of a frozen dinner and certainly does not taste fresh. After experiencing this food, I feel I can get the same quality at any number of cheaper Chinese restaurants. The service was good, but not good enough to bump my review up to three stars. The one dish I recommend here is the appetizer that is served on a lettuce leaf. Great idea!

Had a peaceful dinner outside here while in town for work. The happy hour was fantastic! I had potstickers, chicken satay, raspberry wontons, and a Sam Adams seasonal all for $17. The server was very sweet and attentive, and the view from the patio was about as good as it gets in WDM.

Great dinner tonight with my husband and 9 year old son. We had the crispy green bean appetizer that was cooked perfectly And was delicious. I had Kung Pao Chicken that had heat but flavor. My husband had Changs spicy shrimp. He said it was excellent but it would make it awesome if there was some veggies added. My son is very picky but he loves the kids crispy chicken pieces with sweet and sour sauce. Our waitress was very nice and cordial. It seems like every time we come here though when it's time for the check service gets really slow.

the food quality is just way below expectation in my opinion. I knew this restaurant chain is targeted at non-asian populations and hence it is not very authentic. But there are things like Panda Express that's not authentic, but at least it tastes good! I ordered a dan dan noodle, it was waaaaaay too salty. i ordered a hot and sour soup, this is nothing like the authentic chinese soup. It looks so dark, it might as well be called soy sauce soup. I noticed that there are not many asian restaurants in Des Moines, hence the lack of choice. But food at this quality is just not acceptable.

I've been to a dozen of PF Changs all over the country. The food here was awful. We had a table of 8, well over $200. Check. Poorly made, overly salty and often dried out and tough. Clearly much of the protein was pre cooked. Our server was awesome however. Such a disappointment to treat my friends that I see rarely. It will be my last visit. I'm hoping that this feedback reaches the right people. Des Moines deserves better food, however the line of people at the door seems odd to me. Perhaps the hype and reputation is enough to keep this place busy. Pity...

They have a wonderful management and staff. Refillable beverages never reached the bottom, the staff was attentive and polite and left you alone when you wanted privacy with your party. Salt and pepper calamari was not fresh and did not come with much. I usually don't get sushi in a non-sushi bar but I tried it this time- not great. I'll stick with lettuce wraps next time. Pad Thai is actually quite good here - better than some of the Thai places in the area. Perfect amount of spice, so if you're an average Midwesterner, it will be too spicy. I came here with a gift card and it was misplaced.. The management believed me and just knocked the 25 off my bill. Terrific staff! Can't compliment them enough. Amazing ambience, but the food doesn't match the other areas, sadly.

Ok, I'm going to be strait with you.... If you are Vegan do not go here to eat! Ok the service last night was amazing 5 stars all the way, we went to the bar for a drink and our bartender was welcoming, and very wonderful all around... We got seated and our waitress was great too! Top notch... Even checked to see what they could do Vegan for me... Only thing was Buddha's Feast, which was reasonably priced and sounded good! Sounded so good Ashley (non vegan) ordered it as well! Boy were we wrong! The steamed vegetable meal was un exciting and lacking any sort of flavor! The best thing about the meal was the soy sauce dripped on to my brown rice! The restaurant has a nice lay out, nice sound system where you can hear the music really well and yet hear your tables conversation well but not others around you even though it's an open restaurant! All in all service 5 stars! Food 1 star so will average this one to a 3..

Love PF Chang's. Its a creative and tasty twist on classic Chinese food. They have a lot of great options like Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, and my personal favorite Scallops. They are always accomidating when I ask to leave out an ingredient, or to add something like carrots to the dish. The fried banana desert is fantastic and they have a decent drink selection as well. My only complaint is they tend to be very busy and it can be a little slow to get in and get your order.

  • Heidi M.

I love Chang's Kung Pao Scallops. Do not, under any circumstances, order the sushi. I should have known better. The lobster & avocado rolls were flavorless and consisted of mostly rice & chives. Stick with the crispy green beans as an appetizer instead.

  • Teresa ..

I think PF Chang's is "okay." Obviously most of the items are not "authentic," but for the prices you pay, I don't think it's really worth it. We ordered the Honey Chicken and Honey Shrimp, which is breaded chicken or shrimp in a honey glaze. You get to choose white or brown rice with it. The lettuce wraps here are pretty good, but rather than serve the normal hoisin sauce that comes with lettuce wraps, they use a type of garlic/soy sauce that is liquidy. Luckily I had a bottle of hoisin sauce at home that I opted to use instead.

The food was good but the wait to our table and until someone finally said something too us was just unacceptable. I seen one of the hosts ladies grab a waiter and tell her to come to our table because we were sitting there so long. Then we asked for our check while we were eating just because everything was taking forever with restaurant less than half full. 20 minutes have passed as we sit here looking anxious as can be to leave.

I've eaten at many PF Changs all over the country and it has been an enjoyable experience. I've been to this one twice now and the service has been horrible both times. If you ever need anything you better ask or you will certainly not receive. Once again it's the Midwest lack of service.

I was there last night with 4 others while in town for a horse show. We sat at the table behind the host stand (don't remember our servers name) because he never said it. We started to order drinks from the bar and had no knowledge of your drink menu. Then got really sour and rude about our choices we decided on. He brought us our drinks and literally slid my beer across the table crashing into the other drinks. After a but I ordered another beer (THIS ONE TOOK 14 MINUTES TO GET TO ME) then after about an hour of waiting and no apology for the ticket time we got our food and he had the order all wrong. So we all ended up switching at the table. Then as we were almost done he checked in on us split the bills and he shorted me change expecting a tip. Didn't fee bad for tipping under ten percent because I too am in the service Industry I regret to sat I will probably never be visiting your establishment again! Horrible service. Horrible management. I wish I knew his name so I could single hit out. Every other server seemed on point !

I've been here several times. I like the Chang's Spicy Chicken and of course the lettuce wraps are good too. Ambience is nice, classy, dimly lit. It can get noisy when it's busy. Service. Always had good service there, no issues. 6/10

Sadly a simple dish, absolutely terrible. Ordered chicken pad Thai carry out. Did not know per the menu, the chicken would be fried, with a soggy gross batter on it, but also the chicken had small little bones in it that nearly broke my tooth. Noodles were dry and tasted like peanut butter and bland. Just terrible! The only reason I sunk to a level of PF change for Thai was unfortunately the Thai restaurants in WDM are closed on Sunday. Very sad! Never will eat at PF change again. Gross!

This place is usually spot on, but slipped a little today. The silverware and menus were dirty (both had old food crusted on). The appetizer never showed up, and while the manager ended up removing it from the bill, it would have been nice to try (especially since it was a new item). I get why lunch portions are popular, but when 3/4 of the plate is rice and the chicken is maybe 1/3 a normal portion, something is off. On a positive side, the entree was flavorful, although tiny, and the beer was tasty and served in a chilled glass. I'll go back and give them one more shot, but this location clearly didn't meet the standards the chain commands.

Absolutely the best Chinese food in the Des Moines area. Service the last three times we've dined has been impeccable. Loved the attention and service provided by Melissa and Neal. The restaurant's ambience adds to the experience. Can't wait till our next visit!!! Thanks.

Is P.F. Changs authentic Chinese food? Probably not. But I find their food quite tasty and I enjoy stopping by here a handful of times a year. I am really a fan of either the Sichuan From the Sea: Scallops or the Orange Shrimp. Both have a good spicy flavor to them and a good portion size for one person. The lettuce wraps also make a good app. Stay away from the crab ragoon app, only get three or four smaller ragoons, not worth the price. This location also features an outdoor seating area in back that overlooks the mall lake which in the summer is really nice. Never had bad service here, or at least any that stands out to me. P.F. Changs is a good place to stop by for dinner when you just spent the evening in the mall and need some grub. Like I said, is it going to be the most authentic? No. But it is good and I recommend it.

Ambiance is very loud. Server is a few cards short of a full deck. Ginger beer is far too lemony. Hot & Sour soup and Egg Drop soup both very good, very flavorful. Orange Peel Shrimp good.

I don't know where to start! The food was Amazing!! But the big ticket for me, is that, I am allergic to wheat, and PF Chang's, has created an entire Gluten free menu, that is included in the main menu! There are so many choices, from appetizers to main dishes! Gluten free dishes are served on a desperate set of dishes as well! Which is very important for people like me! If there was a way to give this place 10 stars I would!

I have been to the PF Chang's by my house several times, and also have ordered curbside takeout many times as well. Every time I have ordered food that I wasn't eating at the restaurant, I have parked in the "takeout only" parking spots. Tonight, as soon as the girl who came out to my car (after i called to let them know i was there, as I was told to do when I ordered) got my card, she immediately told me that I should be pulling up to the front of the restaurant, "literally, curbside," instead of parking in the spot I was in. This was the very first thing she said. No greeting, no smile, no I'll be right back with your food, just telling me that I had done the wrong thing. She also explained that there is a camera where they can see the cars from inside the restaurant and they can't see us if we park in the takeout spots. I did let her know that no one had ever told me I wasn't supposed to park there in all the many times I had ordered curbside takeaway, and I had never had a problem with anyone finding my car. It would have been nice to have been informed. It also could have been communicated in a much more polite way. Don't make me feel like an idiot or make your "greeting" to me be essentially "you screwed up." You found me. You have my food. Now you're going to get my money. It was like I was putting her out by making her walk a few more feet to get to my car. Which, by the way, was the same way the girl who answered the phone made me feel, like I was putting her out by calling. She spoke so fast when she answered I couldn't even understand her. I get it. You are all busy. Because you have customers like me who order food and drinks and essentially pay your salary with the money we pump into your employer's establishment. Why be rude? I can stand to wait the few extra seconds it will take for you to slow down your speech enough for me to understand you. I can stand to wait the extra seconds it will take you to walk to those takeout spots to wait on the guy who got here before me, or the extra time it will take to wait on me because I parked in the "wrong" spot. I would rather wait a little longer for good service than get fast, rude service. I have been a food server in several restaurants, and would never have acted like this girl did. She got pretty snotty with me when I said I'd never had a problem with anyone finding my car. I don't need to be treated like that when I am giving away my money, and especially when I'm tipping her! I don't know if I will be ordering from this PF Chang's anytime soon, if ever again. It's just not worth getting this crappy service. ***UPDATE...Big shout out to "Dale A" for telling me to "get a life" because of this review. You are a class act.

My wife and I visited this PF Chang in West Des Moines tonight...very disappointed in the Hot and Sour Soup, it was very salty....the Kung Pao Shrimp tasted like it was fried in old grease and the shrimp came from a frozen shrimp bag also the Kung Pao chicken was so greasy it just slide down your throat without chewing...our regular PF Chang in Houston is soooooo much better...the management should do some quality control

It seems that PF Changs is a popular place to have business meals throughout the US so I have been to quite a few in this chain. All of them are always the same...low lighting, food that you can get for less at a real Chinese restaurant for much less and tight seating. The service is always good though. I have been to this location twice. The first time was for a business lunch and the second was with my bf since he had not been to one. We got there near the end of their Happy Hour (3-6pm) with $3-$6 specials. We both got drinks and the appetizer that is a must, the chicken lettuce wraps. For the main meal, I decided to change things up from my normal dish (Szechuan Shrimp & Scallops) and got the Mandarin Chicken and he got the Canton Chicken and Mushroom. Mine was decent but definitely something I can get for much less at a Chinese restaurant. My bf was not very impressed with his. He said he liked the noodles but not necessarily for that dish. The dish did not have much flavor. We finish with the one other thing I love here, the banana dessert with the pineapple/coconut ice cream. It is soo good. To summarize, I also do not understand all the hype around PF Changs. Both my bf and I have been to China and have had true Chinese food and this is not it. We have decided to go there only for appetizers and dessert in the future.

Long wait, dirty table, good food. Told a 40-50 minute wait, which ended up being an hour. Then, seated at a table that may or may not have been wiped down from the last diners. Had to wipe my seat down myself before taking it. Upside is that the Honey Chicken and Chang's Spicy Chicken were great! As were the lettuce wraps.

It's awesome every time I go there! Most everyone who reviews chains on this site are foodies who mainly only like to support local restaurants, because they think they'll be shunned upon if they give a chain restaurant a high rating. Get over yourselves, please. That being said, I enjoy my trips to P.F. Chang's! My dish of choice is the Shrimp Lo Mein with a side of white rice. If I were to get water only as my beverage, and I order that dish, I can get out of there for less than ten dollars! If I'm with friends, if they want them, I'll get the lettuce wraps...when I'm flying solo I just skip them. They are very delicious! I've been to several other P.F. Chang's (this one the most, though) and it's consistent throughout! Keep doing what you're doing, P.F. Chang's...and don't listen to the type of people who eat "organic only" foods, shops only at upscale stores to make themselves feel important, and complain about life...

I ate here a couple nights ago which was my first time there. It was my sisters B-day, so I had made reservations online and everything went smoothly when we showed up. We were seated in the middle of the room by the entrance and the only complaint of the night was the cold breeze that came every time someone entered the restaurant. We had the lettuce wraps for an appetizer and like many other yelpers have said, they are quite tasty. I had the sichuan from the sea with shrimp and calamari. Overall I enjoyed the dish, the shrimp was alright but I thought the calamari was superb. The waitress we had was quite attentive and helpful when asked questions about the menu. I thought the portion size was very adequate, leftovers were taken home by 2 of the party of four. I would recommend this place to others and go back again.

Always yummy at this chain. Doesn't feel like the same old thing. Love the fried green beans, New Mango Chicken is sweet and spicey good! Hubby had Honey Shrimp and said it was JUST what he wanted, savory and a little sweet. Needed a few more veggies, but very happy with what we ate. No room for dessert.

I'd give it 2 stars for some menu items and 4 or 5 for others, so I settled on a 3. My favorites include the Lettuce Wraps, Crispy Green Beans, Chang's Spicy Chicken or Mongolian Beef I've been disappointed with the ribs - there's hardly any meat on them and not too tender. Granted, they are appetizer portions, but still, too much bone, too little meat! Also the Sesame Chicken, Honey Chicken and Almond and Cashew Chicken bowls taste like food court-quality dishes. They filled me up, but left me wishing I would have gone somewhere else to eat. Overall, PF Chang's ranges from ho-hum try it to absolutely delicious. It's worth several visits so you can create your own list of trusted favorites.

Not very impressed. I feel this chain has gone down hill for the past year or two. The dishes don't taste very fresh and tasty. The sauces taste overproduced and unauthentic. My side dish of pea pods was either tough or mushy, with a strange taste. Service was good. The patio, with it's view of the pond was nice.

My wife and I ate here yesterday evening. We showed up at about 8pm, and were seated immediately. Our server was very attentive. Very laid back, no complaints from me. We had the lettuce wraps, and they were pretty good. Very nice crunch to them, and the pepper sauce that they mix at the table was a nice addition to these. I had the oolong tea, and my wife had the white tangerine tea. The oolong was pretty good. I thought the tangerine flavor in my wife's was too strong, but it was well suited to her palette. My wife had the almond-cashew chicken for an entree (pretty standard version), and I had the singapore street noodles. I enjoyed the curry sauce in my noodles. My wife's only complaint is the level of lighting in the restaurant. Half the time she can't see her food. Overall, I think this is a decent chain. I would prefer this over most strip-mall Chinese restaurants. No, I wouldn't call it the most authentic Chinese cuisine out there, but in the suburban wasteland, it's a decent meal.

PF Changs is my favorite chain resturant! There isn't one in Cedar Rapids, Ia so I'll find myself searching my GPS or on Yelp for Pf Changs in the area I'm in. When I know there's one with in an hour I usually make the trip. I've been to this pf changs quite a few times. I've always have had good experiances every time I've been at this location! Weather it's for take out or sit down! DAN DAN Noodles son! Man you get so much for the money too! And they have some of the best pan fried dumplins ever! My friends and family also love the Lettuce wraps. My mouth is watering just writing this review guess I'll be hunting down a changs today!

They are always accomidating when I ask to leave out an ingredient, or to add something like carrots to the dish. The fried banana desert is fantastic and they have a decent drink selection as well. My only complaint is they tend to be very busy and it can be a little slow to get in and get your order.

I love Chang's Kung Pao Scallops. Do not, under any circumstances, order the sushi. I should have known better. The lobster & avocado rolls were flavorless and consisted of mostly rice & chives. Stick with the crispy green beans as an appetizer instead.

No. But it is good and I recommend it.

the food quality is just way below expectation in my opinion.

Gross!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
